Smail Kurtović successfully transplanted, his wife Zineta was a kidney donor
The first living donor kidney transplantation was performed this week in Koc hospital in Istanbul, within the OPEN NETWORK Program.
We remind you that Smail Kurtović from Sarajevo was a long-term dialysis patient who was a candidate for cadaveric transplantation in France within the ON Program since 2015, until last year, when his wife Zineta decided to be a donor.
This new cooperation will accelerate the transplantation procedure for a growing number of beneficiaries who applied for living donor transplantations, in addition to the existing program in France, where we also expect new transplantations soon – the most demanding ones.
Smail and Zineta feel great and their medical parameters, according to the Turkish physicians, are good. Although the transplantation was performed on Tuesday, Zineta is being discharged from hospital today. This was the same blood type transplantation, and with the help of Pr Lionel Rostaing, OPEN NETWORK is working on providing different blood type transplantations program in this hospital in the future.
ON coordinators, Irma Kolja and Svendi Zubović, are accompanying family Kurtović in Istanbul, and in the following period, they will coordinate the treatment of three more patients from OPEN NETWORK Program in this new hospital.
